DISCLAIMER: I AM NO LONGER VEGAN BUT I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. The experience was hands down awesome!!
What is Veganism?
Veganism is a diet that contains no dairy or meat. At least in my case 😂.
How I decided to become a vegan
I have nothing against Gods animals. The Bible says animals were made for food. Our agreement or disagreement with the word does not change the WORD! But on to my story…
After 3 days dairy free, my skin was unrecognizable and extremely beautiful. After 1 week, I decided never to have dairy again! Here’s why: Research shows that going dairy free changes the texture of the skin and minimizes inflammation. Dairy is a “pro-inflammatory” ingredient, and days after quitting, my skin was baby-like and almost clear. For many, the purging process may take weeks/ months, so do not be discouraged. You’ll get there!
Fun fact: Did you know the first clothing ever be made, and by God Himself, was made from animal skins? “And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.”
Genesis 3:21 NLT
The Food!
The only promise I had made to myself before embarking on this journey was that I would not punish myself, or deprive myself of good meals/substitutes that would lead to craving and binge eating all the things I thought I’d be missing out on. Like the song says “I did it my way”.
I’ve never liked or added vegetables or fruits to my diet, but I figured once I got use to being vegan, I would eventually work my way up to it. If you look through my Favorite Brands, it’s easy to tell I LOVE sweets. Only now, I was eating a healthier version of the sweets I already liked and enjoyed.
The first thing I bought, were vegan friendly digestives biscuits and dairy free chocolate milk! 😂 which would immediately became my favorite after dinner or late night snack.
Why I almost gave up
Before, I mentioned that I refused to punish myself or deprive myself of my favorite foods. Bread and Chicken were not something I’d be giving up on.
Chicken: I had heard the horror stories about tofu being bland and after making it once (a few years ago) I was not looking forward to it. It had already been bought so I figured I’d give it one last try. Added Jamaican seasonings and fried it. I can’t remember my exact reaction when I did a taste test, but it went something like this. “OMG… WHAT?!” I asked (the tofu 🤦🏾♀️) if it had morphed into chicken. Then convincing (the tofu) it was a chicken fraud. 🤦🏾♀️
The Bread: After trying certain breads, I almost quit. Then I found Arnold’s. It’s better than any bread I’ve ever had. I’m confused as to how it out matched hard dough or Hawaiian sweet bread. 😂 it was the hardest vegan brand to find and worth the wait.
Daniel Fast – This fast has many benefits. My aim for this fast is how I started my vegan journey.
“At the end of the ten days, Daniel and his three friends looked healthier and better nourished than the young men who had been eating the food assigned by the king. So after that, the attendant fed them only vegetables instead of the food and wine provided for the others. God gave these four young men an unusual aptitude for understanding every aspect of literature and wisdom. And God gave Daniel the special ability to interpret the meanings of visions and dreams.”
